Look to the sky and dream, for it is the dreamer who drives the world beyond the impossible.

I am also a resident of the virtual world of Second Life where I am a builder. Second Life provides me with another medium to work on 3d projects and builds while allowing others to enjoy and use my works as well.
My username in SecondLife is Krahazik Zaytsev [link] though I have my display name set as Krahazik Dragon. My business group in SL is BLack Dragon Studios.

I gotta say, you've got quite the collection of melee weapons there. My favorites are the more flexible-looking, less traditional ones, such as that longbow that doubles as a melee weapon.

Thanks for the Watch and the Fave. My apologies for not being able to chat last night but I'm in the UK and it was so late here I was barely awake. Hope to talk to you in SL at some point soon. Jannah Reich.

made a few more tweaks to the Keoda, and in effect turned it into an entirely different plane while retaining most of the original design.

-removed the turbo props: good for low altitude, but their efficiency is limited as is their speed.
-added 4 high bypass turbofan engines to replace the props (max speed at sea level is close to 550-600 mph now. Cruising altitude is now greatly increased to 45k feet and cruising speed is 450-500mph. All 4 combined output 380,000lbs of thrust at a standstill)
-as a direct consequence of changing the powerplants, the constant yaw oscillation during cruise has been eliminated
-increased empty weight: now 90k pounds dry
-added flaps to lower main wings for increased lift at lower speeds.
-added slats to all main lifting airfoils
-shrunk the canards a little and increased their dihedral to 10 degrees
-redid the panel... AGAIN
-increased fuel consumption slightly, and greatly increased fuel capacity to reflect the amount of space available in the wings for the tanks (half tanks get about 16hr of endurance and almost 7000 nm)

i havent tested it at 80 knots for airskimmer drop and recovery, although its likely the increased weight means recovery now means the keoda has to loose altitude in order to meet the speed requirement. The flaps should help some, but i have yet to see.
One more thing. This design has a max takeoff weight of 500k lbs. It can do heavier, but it requires a significant roll distance, full flaps, and about 300mph before the wheels lift (and by significant roll i mean i sucked up the entire length of the longest dirt runway at edwards and i lifted off about 100ft from the end).

The reason why i put on such powerful engines is not because i had a need for speed, it was for two reasons:
A. to greatly reduce the takeoff roll when heavily loaded
and
B. when cruising, the engines can be run at just 80% throttle to produce the above noted cruise numbers, which in turn translates to longer range (full range of this thing now should be 15000 miles before fueling is required)

now... to paint it a new color...

Interesting, it was originally meant to go slow, inspired by anime where such airships are seen and high-bypass engines hadn't been invented yet :), could say the original is the 100 model and your new one is the 200 model. Heck with more powerful engines and greater weight capacity, could see about lengthening the main hull to add more parking space for more planes. I have thought about doing another model with a wider and longer hull. Just haven't gotten around to it.

I am glad you like playing with it :)

after a little more tweaking, i managed to get the minimum speed (@ 50% max weight) down to 104kts. Any slower and it starts to sink, and this is with full flaps and pulling back to the right spot so the canards produce max lift without stalling.

Right now i am doing a long range run from england to Japan, and so far its flown about 550nm without a hitch. still got about 4600 to go through, and ETA is a long 12.4 hours.

And if you are going to do the bigger version, you know who to go to for the engines, panel, and other stuff. Just tell me what it needs to be able to do.

And just for shits and grins, i froze the sim and placed a 747 next to it... the keoda is shorter and lighter, but has longer wings (by about 30ft) and much more lifting surface (id say about 60% more; 5825 sq ft vs 8737 sq ft). For speed, the 747 is the winner. For raw efficiency, the keoda wins. Capacity for both id say is about the same, if you strip the plane bay clean and rip out the passenger sections out of the airship.

Quick question: if i gave you an image of a model i would like to see in xplane 9, would you turn it into a flyable aircraft, provided i gave you the specs of it alongside the model?

Ill do the panels & other stuff on your craft in return >_>
